Thank you for visiting Seven Seas Music (“Company”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). This notice describes how we collect, use, and share personal information on https://www.sevenseasmusic.com(the “Website”), including audio played from that site, and the emails the Website sends. It does not cover our internal admin tools or our contracts with artists.

Questions about this notice: email licensing@sevenseasmusic.com or our Data Protection Officer, Brooke Wentz, at bmw@sevenseasmusic.com.

Please read this privacy notice carefully so you understand what we do with the information we collect.

1. What information do we collect?

Information you give us

In Short: We collect what you type into the contact form, a licensing enquiry, or the newsletter field.

There are no visitor accounts on the Website. You may choose to give us:

  • Contact form: name, email address, and message.
  • Licensing enquiry: name, email address, the artists and tracks you name, and where you opened the form — Discover, or the public name of an artist profile.
  • Newsletter: email address. We send a confirmation email before the subscription is active.

If you put other details in a message (for example a company name or job title), we will receive those too. We do not ask for passwords, usernames, or payment information on the Website.

Information collected automatically

When you use the Website we process:

  • Product analytics: an anonymous session identifier stored in your browser for the tab session, the page address, referrer, event name (for example a page view or a play), and country derived from IP address. This is first-party analytics. It is not advertising and it does not use a cookie.
  • Playback protection: your IP address, used only to limit how many full-length streams can be granted from that address in a time window, and short-lived functional cookies so the player can fetch the track you asked to hear.
  • Technical logs: standard request data our hosting and audio delivery providers need to serve the Website (such as IP address and user agent).

Artist information on the catalogue

The Website publishes artist names, biographies, photographs, and track metadata as our public catalogue. That content comes from our relationships with artists, not from site visitors. Questions or takedown requests: contact us.

2. How do we use your information?

In Short: We use it to reply to you, run the newsletter if you subscribe, operate and protect the Website, and understand how the Site is used.

  • To respond to enquiries. We use contact-form and licensing-enquiry details to reply and, if you asked about licensing, to continue that conversation.
  • To send the newsletter. We use your email only after you confirm the subscription. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To operate and protect the Website. We use IP address and playback cookies so streams can play and so automated harvesting is harder.
  • To understand aggregate use. We use anonymous analytics to see which pages and features are used, to find errors, and to improve the Website. We do not use this for advertising and we do not sell it.

3. Will your information be shared with anyone?

In Short: We share information with service providers who run the Website for us, or when the law requires it. We do not sell personal information.

We may process or share information on these grounds:

  • Consent: for example, you submit the contact form, send a licensing enquiry, or confirm a newsletter subscription.
  • Legitimate interests: operating, securing, and understanding the Website.
  • Legal obligations: where we must disclose information to comply with law, a court order, or a lawful request.
  • Vital interests: where we believe it is necessary to investigate fraud, security incidents, or harm.

In practice, that means:

  • Service providers. Hosting, audio delivery, sending the contact notification, and running the newsletter. They process information only to provide that service to us.
  • Business transfers. We may share information in connection with a merger, sale of assets, or similar transaction.

Seven Seas Music does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

4. Do we use cookies and other tracking technologies?

In Short: We set functional cookies so a track can play. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

When you play a full-length track, the Website sets short-lived cookies in your browser so our audio service can deliver that track. Those cookies are not used to advertise to you or to track you on other sites. They expire after a short period (on the order of minutes).

First-party analytics uses a temporary identifier in session storage, not a cookie. We do not run a separate Cookie Notice, and we do not use interest-based advertising cookies.

5. How long do we keep your information?

In Short: Only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it, unless a longer period is required by law.

  • Contact messages and licensing enquiries: as long as needed to handle your enquiry.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe, or we close the list.
  • Analytics events: for product analysis, then deleted or kept only in aggregate.
  • Stream-grant records: for the quota window they enforce, then they age out.

Backup copies may persist for a short time after deletion. We isolate them from further use until they are overwritten.

6. How do we keep your information safe?

In Short: We use organisational and technical measures appropriate to a public website. No transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

We aim to protect personal information we process. You should still use the Website on a device and network you trust. We cannot guarantee that unauthorised third parties will never defeat our safeguards.

7. Do we collect information from children?

In Short: The Website is a general-audience catalogue. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We do not market to children. If you believe we have collected personal information from a child under 13, email licensing@sevenseasmusic.com and we will delete it.

8. What are your privacy rights?

In Short: Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict personal information we hold about you, or to object to our processing.

In some regions (including the EEA and UK), you may have the right to request a copy of your personal information, to ask us to correct or delete it, to restrict processing, and, where applicable, to data portability. You may also have the right to object to processing, and to withdraw consent where we rely on consent (for example the newsletter). Withdrawal does not affect processing that already happened.

To make a request, contact us or email licensing@sevenseasmusic.com. We will handle requests in line with applicable law. If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we are processing your information unlawfully, you may complain to your local supervisory authority. EEA authorities: edpb.europa.eu. Switzerland: edoeb.admin.ch.

Email marketing

Unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter, or by contacting us. We may still email you about an enquiry you opened (for example a licensing conversation).

9. Controls for do-not-track features

Some browsers send a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) signal. There is no common standard for honouring it. We do not change our analytics or playback behaviour in response to DNT. If a standard we must follow is adopted, we will update this notice.

10. Do California residents have specific privacy rights?

In Short: Yes. California law gives residents additional rights to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

California Civil Code Section 1798.83 (“Shine The Light”) lets California residents request, once a year and free of charge, information about personal information we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing, if any. We do not share personal information for third-party direct marketing. To make a request, write to us using the contact details below.
